It’s a little past the midpoint of your workday. Do you know where your mind is? Feeling distracted? Yawning? If so, you have hit that mid-shift wall and that late afternoon slump. STOP!!! Before you sprint to the dreadful, unhealthy vending machine or go for coffee,  pause and reach for a healthy snack that you and your body won’t regret later.Studies show that what you eat affects your brain power. Your diet plays a vital role in determining how much information you retain, how well you perform daily tasks and remember names and vocabulary. The brain uses nutrients as fuel. Naturally your blood sugar is lower as you are nearing the end of your day, hours after lunch. Maintain your strong mental capabilities by making the right decision while snacking. I have been experimenting with many healthy snacks and recipes, lately. Here are 3 of my favorites and what they can do for you. Enjoy!

Avocado ambitions: It really doesn’t get much better than cutting into a creamy avocado, sprinkling the flesh with some salt and pepper and enjoying every buttery bite. Avocados contain monounsaturated fat that improves blood flow. The fruit also lowers blood pressure, which makes everyone’s workday run easier. Enjoy avocados on salads, sandwiches or alone, with a dash of hot sauce or lemon juice.

Blueberry boosts: We all know that memory loss occurs with age. Scientists, at the USDA Research Center, have discovered that blueberries may be effective in improving or delaying short-term memory loss. Experiments have been conducted that proved the human subjects that drank blueberry juice scored higher on their memory tests versus those who did not enjoy the blueberry beverage. The peak season to enjoy these berries is the early summer, however they are available and just as good whether fresh, frozen or freeze-dried.

Potent pumpkin seeds: My favorite childhood snack was pumpkin seeds! I say potent because you only need a handful of these seeds daily to give you the recommended amount of zinc. Zinc is vital for enhancing memory and thinking skills. With Halloween and Thanksgiving approaching quickly, ’tis the season to indulge in this perfectly potent snack.
